The next publishing of the Michigan Consumer Sentiment Index is scheduled for December 20, 2024, at 10:00 AM EST.

The Michigan Consumer Sentiment Index is a monthly survey conducted by the University of Michigan to gauge consumer confidence in the United States economy. This widely-watched economic indicator provides insights into consumer attitudes and expectations, which can have significant implications for future spending and economic activity. The University of Michigan releases a preliminary on the second Friday of each month and a final survey on the fourth Friday of each month at 10:00 a.m.

Key Components

The index consists of two main components:

  1. Current Economic Conditions: This measures consumers' perceptions of their present financial situation and the current state of the economy

  2. Index of Consumer Expectations: This focuses on consumers' views regarding:

    • Their own financial prospects

    • Short-term economic outlook

    • Long-term economic outlook
